After an hour's drive out of Lahore, just off the M2 to Islamabad, we reached Hiran Minar. Mughal Emperor Jahangir built this memorial to his favorite antelope upon its passing in 1604. It's a beautiful walk around an artificial pond, with sights including the minar itself, the octagonal pavilion connected to land by an arched causeway, wooded paths and kingfishers. On our way back we passed brick kilns (and their oppressive work environments) which strongly contrasted with the opulent birthday party we later attended. So in one day we saw the greatest period of the region along with its current dearth and abundance. CLICK here to see the photos
